unfair's silver lining

Have you ever noticed that life is not perfect?

Sometimes it catches you by surprise (something not panning out quite how it was planned) or reminds you at the wrong time (anger ensues).

My mother always had a knack for giving me a little "life isn't fair" reality check as a child when I did not get my way. At the time, it was the icing on the cake, the last thing I ever wanted to hear. It was true; life is not fair, but restating the obvious was almost just like kicking me when I was down.

I've grown up considerably since then (I hope) and I oddly cherish the inconsistencies of life instead of cursing them. It's not all that cliché "I'm better because I lived through it" lesson (although sometimes there is a bit of that).

It is more that I accept life's ups and downs. Problems cycle, but I feel like they offer direction to life. They help us to realize our identities, to determine what we hold dear, find out what our weaknesses are and see our strong suits.

So, next time you look to the sky to utter (or scream) "f my life," try and take a step back. You're going to be alright. Hey, maybe even better off.

Know that each situation and decision has a silver lining. Never have a regret. Cherish that every bit of your past has made you who you are today. There is only one of "you" and the world is a better place because "you" are here. Find the lesson and believe that whatever the result, it has worked out the way it was suppose to. You may not see the reasoning immediately but there is a reason. If you look back at your disappointments as well as your highs there was a "silver lining" in each occurrence. Treasure who "you" are and go forward and conquer your dreams without hesitation or regret.

I will take cliche anytime over the alternative. For every Yin there is a Yang so here goes....You were a mistake. Perhaps some religious rule kept your here, or perhaps your mom was too far along or the morning after pill didn't work, but welcome to the ranks. You plod along asking everyone's advice usually many people before you settle on a decision. This is the safest way to make a decision because you can blame the person who gave you the advice. Then after you accumulate enough decisions, you can start to blame your miserable life on the world. You regret most decisions and use this as an excuse for your current lot. You utter many times over your life, "If I only had...then things would be different"
You will not make a mark in the world because you have amounted to nothing. You are just one cog in the machine. You are bitter and blaming. But, you don't know better because your friends are cut from the same cloth.
So yes, cliche may fit, but I will take that any day over the alternative. Examine your motives for being so cynical. Life it to short. cliche.

I don't think criticizing something as being cliché automatically makes the critic a cynic. I am uplifted by messages of optimism as much as the next guy, but when I read an optimistic excerpt I find to be cliche, the message is minimized. Hallmark might buy your, "life it too short" writing, but your not going to evoke any emotional reaction from me. I don't mind if my craving for originality and creativity causes some to label me as "jaded".
